The advantages of early participation of AST technical staff in the planning process, were able to be exploited to the full for this project. Initially, in addition to several points requiring clarification, there were also differing ideas which had to be integrated into the overall system. Step by step, in a joint effort involving the customer, AST staff and the installation company, it was possible to finalize the system and most importantly, the model. Thus, a unique and above all individual facade style could be achieved with the sliding bi-fold shutters used. A narrow frame design incl. protected edges, custom colour scheme and in combination with the expanded metal requested, were prerequisite for this project. Since the design incorporated bi-fold sliding elements, the maximum shutter thickness was pre-defined. The resultant problem of clearance could be solved using an extruded aluminium profile frame with integrated edge protection. The expanded metal was attached to the frame and subsequently coated as a single element. This enabled the complete product to be coated all over without any bare areas. The expanded metal chosen captivates with its honeycomb mesh appearance and whilst protecting against direct sunlight, allows sufficient daylight to enter the rooms behind. With up to 8 shutters per element, large-sized windows are able to be shaded here too. The fitting method used is characterized by its ease of use, as well as silent running and precise operation. Using a simple locking system, individual shutters can be secured in a closed position. When open, these are at an angle of 90° to the facade. As a result of preparatory work in the factory, including arranging the order of the sliding bi-fold shutters according to position, fitting on site could be carried out by the customer in the shortest possible time. Service extras such as these, can provide significant savings for our customers, particularly at the fitting stage. The successful colour scheme was also customized. A colour chosen and produced especially for this project allows the elements to blend perfectly with the facade.
