PROJECT OF THE MONTH

pdm_2012_01_184px

- Project name: State Nursing Home, Scheiblingskirchen
- Location: Scheiblingkirchen, Lower Austria
- Number of elements: 114 shutters
- Type of shutter(s): Sliding shutters
- Model: Special model with Z-section lamellae
- Initial contact: September 2009
- Realisation: Deliveries up to December 2010

With the State Nursing Home in Scheiblingkirchen (Lower Austria), we were able to complete an extremely interesting and demanding project. This project was an impressive demonstration of the continuous expansion of our product range. Since this model type had not even existed previously, a special solution had first to be found together with the architect and customer, which would provide the solar protection required. In order to achieve optimum adaptation of the oversize shutter elements of 1700 x 2800 mm to the facade, several details had to be incorporated into the model's structure.

The model Z designed here, has a frame construction which is bolted together and consists of 70x23 mm extruded aluminium frame sections top and bottom, with 70x6 mm extruded flat aluminium sections at the sides. The Z-section lamellae especially produced for this project, were double-bolted to the frame at intervals specified by the customer. As a result of the bolted joints and design chosen for the frame, the required stability could be achieved for this model.

In addition, all the elements for this project were equipped with power operation, which due to the weight of the elements made exact engineering of the hardware fittings necessary. Through the choice of the AST Type B 100 kg system, one which ensures maximum ease of handling as well as silent and precision running characteristics, could be provided. At the same time all components of the facade for mounting the running and guide tracks were designed and supplied as well. A decisive factor for efficient installation on site was provided by the AST service of pre-fitting the running and guide elements to the shutters and the components of the facade.

PROJECT OF THE MONTH

ProjektdesMonatsAugust2011ModellSonderTwoInaBoxWaldingSTARTSEITE_184_122px

- Project name: BVH Störk
- Location: WALDING Oberösterreich
- Number of elements: 22 shutters
- Type of shutter(s): Sliding shutter
- Model: Special model (Fundermax lamellae)
- Initial contact: September 2009
- Realisation: Main delivery July 2010

The continuing evolution of aluminium shutters is strikingly demonstrated by this project. The solar protection required and developed here reflects the perfect combination of aluminium with other materials - in this particular case Fundermax panels. In what is to a certain extent new ground, several special features had to be resolved and designed into the model. Again the priority here was to find the most advantageous adaptation of the oversize panel elements to the facade.

The greatest challenge was engendered by the material which the customer wanted to use. Not just conventional Fundermax panels were to be incorporated, but panels attached as lamellae at an angle to the 50 x 40 mm L-profile frame. In addition, everything had to be made with no visible screwed joints or rivets which made adhesive bonding necessary. With element dimensions of up to 2000 x 2500 mm this was obviously quite a challenge which resulted in a technically and visually perfect implementation.

The model designed here has an all-round frame of extruded 40 x 50 x 5mm aluminium L-profile, which due to the width of panel is additionally fitted with a mullion. For angling the lamellae, a special aluminium inlay grid was used, to which the approx. 70 mm wide Fundermax lamellae were bonded. The priority here was to identify and utilize a durable and proven bonding technology. In addition the complete frame was pre-coated in the desired colour.

The panel elements were utilized mainly as frontal solar-protection elements able to be moved freely in several levels for this building. The fitting method used is characterized by its ease of use, as well as silent running and precise operation.

The perfect combination of materials used and the colour scheme chosen, show the elements to their full advantage on the building.

PROJECT OF THE MONTH

ProjektdesMonatsMai2011ModellSLSonderSozialzentrumLudesch5STARTSEITE_klein

- Project name: Sozialzentrum Ludesch
- Location: Ludesch Vorarlberg
- Number of elements: 7 shutters
- Type of shutter(s): Sliding shutters
- Model: Model SL (special model)
- Initial contact: September 2009
- Realisation: Main delivery December 2010

Early participation by AST for completion of this project in the sector of solutions for solar protection, could once again be demonstrated very effectively. By maintaining close contact between architects, installation partners and AST during the planning and implementation phases, these oversize shutter elements could be matched perfectly to the facade.

The biggest challenge was posed by the size of the elements of up to 3100 x 3200 mm. Since a requirement was that 3 elements should be able to slide behind one another, modified fittings constructed to accommodate this load had to be designed as well. In accordance with the customer's requirements, the standard SL model was not to be used and therefore step by step, a suitable customized solution had to be evolved.

The model used in this case has a full frame design of 70 x 30 mm extruded aluminium profile, which is fitted with an additional inside L-profile. In order to increase shutter rigidity, additional transverse profiles were incorporated at the same height as the window transoms. This was possible because the shutter has its minimum depth at that point. The wavy-surfaced bevelled and perforated aluminium sheet is then attached to the frame and coated with the desired NCS colour. The respective runners and guide rails are finished the same way, in whichever colour is desired.

The elements can be moved in a total of 3 planes, to provide stylish solar protection for the extensively glazed facade. The fitting method used is characterized by its ease of use, as well as silent running and precise operation. In addition, using motorized drives, the elements can be moved automatically as though by hand. Furthermore, up to 3 panels are linked to one another.

Handling this size of panel presents a challenge at all process stages, without even mentioning the problem of safe and secure transportation. All the more reason to emphasise the importance of the preparatory work in the factory, which makes installation on site significantly easier for the customer and saves considerable time.
