INNOVATION: ELECTRICAL DRIVE FOR BI-FOLD SHUTTERS

In the past, bi-fold shutters were usually moved by hand. The “problem” with previous motorised
sliding bi-fold shutters was the drive with the door closing motors. These are extremely expensive
and extremely complicated from a technical point of view. AST has now come up with the first
technically refined and stylish electric sliding bi-fold shutters at a cost-effective price. A new
planning option is now available to property developers and architects.

It took more than 2 years to develop this world’s first into a product that was ready for patenting
and launching on the market. Some intensive tinkering and CAD work was needed to integrate
the electric motor and therefore create a new drive concept.

This drive system reduced the final cost of motorisation by approximately 65 per cent. The new
drive for sliding bi-fold shutters is now just 30 per cent more expensive than technically simpler
motorised sliding shutters that only move in one plane.
